First Details on DC’s Trinity War Revealed

If you recall back to last year’s “The New 52 Free Comic Book Day Special,” there was a teaser for an upcoming story titled “Trinity War” that would pit hero against hero and feature “The Trinity of Sin” at the forefront. Since that time, there have been only hints of what will happen in the comic, but now USA Today caught up with Justice League writer Geoff Johns to talk about the upcoming crossover.

Starting in July, “Trinity War” will take place in the pages of Justice League, Justice League of America, and Justice League Dark. The six issue series will span across each title for two issues.

“We really want to find and carve out the Justice League corner of the DC Universe,” Johns says. “It is a universe all itself with these three teams, and it feels big enough to be worthy of a Justice League story.”

“It’s going to be really interesting when these characters do come together, because some of them haven’t met, some of them have, and what happens and unfolds in this is going to force them to choose sides.”

Johns calls the story an “action mystery,” due to the involvement of the Trinity of Sin – The Question, The Phantom Stranger, and Pandora. Pandora, if you recall, is the entity that witnessed the ‘birth’ of the New 52 at the end of the Flashpoint mini-series and even made an appearance in the first issue of each new series.

“She’s an enigma, completely,” Johns says. “In a lot of ways, she’s been a pawn for most of her existence. She was tricked into using the box and she’s being tricked into doing something now, in a way. The Justice League, that becomes another part of it.”

Johns isn’t alone in this story as Justice League Dark writer Jeff Lemire will co-write Justice League of America with him for the crossover.

“It’s not going to end wrapped up in a bow,” Johns says. “Something really, really major happens that kicks off some pretty crazy stuff at the end of August.”
