Barbarella Now Being Planned as Amazon Studios Series

After a number of recent attempts to bring the pop heroine to the big screen, “Barbarella” appears to have found a home more befitting her original serial format. Deadline reports that Amazon Studios is looking at developing the project as a pilot with the hopes of turning “Barbarella” into an ongoing series.

“Barbarella” made her debut in 1962 in a French graphic magazine written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest, and her adventures have been published around the world, although she’s arguably better known for director Roger Vadim’s 1968 feature film version, produced by Dino De Laurentiis and headlined by Jane Fonda.

The new series boasts a pilot script by Skyfall scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Nicolas Winding Refn, previously attached to the property to helm a feature version, will executive produce alongside Martha De Laurentiis.
