As they’ve been doing for three weeks, Marvel Comics has debuted another teaser for next year, but there’s something different about this one. “Everything Ends” the teaser reads, along with the cryptic “Spring 2015,” placing it before all of the previously-announced teaser images which featured the likes of Civil War, Planet Hulk, Age of Apocalypse, and X-Men ’92.
Though we’re unsure what it all means, we can at least take an educated guess of how Marvel will get to this point. Back in 2013, at the conclusion of the “Age of Ultron” comic series (similar in name only to the upcoming film), time was broken in the Marvel universe. Too much meddling and traveling had left it irreparably damaged. This leads to a number of other time-based anomalies such as the “first” X-Men being transported to the present day from the past, and the likes of Spider-Man 2099 being transported to the present from the future.
Currently Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers and New Avengers comics are telling a gargantuan story arc titled “Time Runs Out,” which is counting down in real time. The most recent issue was headlined with “In 7 Months…Time Runs Out!” which puts time at officially running out in May of 2015, putting it perfectly in sync with both “Everything ending” in the Spring and all of these other “Summer 2015” teasers (plus a little movie you may have heard about). Once they get to this point, Marvel Comics has already revealed that a new Secret Wars series will start, which appears to be taking its cues from all of these past events in the Marvel Universe.
