Melissa Rosenberg Teases Jessica Jones Season 2, Defenders Connection

Once Luke Cage and Iron Fist wrap up their own first seasons, the Marvel/Netflix plan reaches its apex with The Defenders, combining all four of their shows into one mega-event. Following that will be a new season of Daredevil but also the highly-anticipated Jessica Jones Season 2. Speaking with IGN, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg teased how the event will springboard into the second season.

“What’s nice for us over on our side of the hall, is if we think — we’re still shaping what we want to do, but we’re like, maybe we can set them up over in the Defenders, let’s go talk to Doug and Marco, and we’re like, ‘Hey, what do you think about this?’ So it’s nice. We’ve started gathering and thinking about where we’re going. We have a big job in front of us. The bar was set pretty high.”

It’s unclear who the threat will be in Jessica Jones Season 2, but Rosenberg says that they’re not going to try and redo David Tennant’s Kilgrave.

“We’ll never create that again. That is one of the great iconic characters played by a profoundly talented actor. The objective is not to match that, not to try to do that again.”

Rosenberg says the second season will bring the focus to the supporting characters around Jessica as well; and speaking of supporting characters could we see Trish Walker finally become Hellcat in the new episodes?

“[There’s] always the promise. I mean, for me, the character of Trish is so rich, Hellcat or not. She’s already bad-ass. What’s most interesting to me is their relationship. You know, that friendship, that sisterhood. That’s the core of the show. That’s the core relationship of the show.”

A Netflix original series, Marvel’s Jessica Jones is the second of four epic live-action adventure series is a suspenseful, edgy look into the life of Jessica Jones, one of the most popular new Marvel characters of the last decade, as she faces demons from within and without. After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City.

Krysten Ritter stars as the title hero in the series and was joined in season one by Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval.
