CS sits down with Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Doctor Strange’s big bad, Kaecilius

This Friday, “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with director Scott Derrickson‘s Doctor Strange! For star Mads Mikkelsen, who plays the film’s antagonist, Kaecilius, it’s been a long time coming. As he tells ComingSoon.net in our exclusive interview, he was originally eyed for the Malekith role in Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, but he couldn’t play the part because of his Hannibal schedule. The former NBC series also comes up when discussing the grand philosophies of Doctor Strange, some of which have some interesting overlap with some of the ideas expressed in the Bryan Fuller Thomas Harris adaptation. Check it out in the player below!

Doctor Strange is directed by Derrickson from a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Passengers) and C. Robert Cargill (Sinister). The film follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.
