New Lost in Space Featurette Highlights Fierce Robinson Women

In the new Lost in Space featurette released by Netflix, the Robinson women take us behind the scenes to reveal what it takes to venture into space: Be fierce, smart, and unstoppable! The Robinsons made the decision to begin a new life together in space, and now nothing is stopping them. In this featurette, Mina Sundwall (Penny Robinson), Molly Parker (Maureen Robinson), Taylor Russell (Judy Robinson), as well as Parker Posey (Dr. Smith) reveal why anything is possible for their characters, and how they stay determined to master the challenges ahead.

The series is set 30 years in the future where colonization of space is now a reality and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home, they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination.

Thanks to the Lost in Space panel at WonderCon this year, we know (mild spoiler alert) that the first episode introduces viewers to the Robinson family who has crash landed on a planet that is freezing and covered in snow. Matriarch Maureen Robinson has broken her leg, and one of the children, Judy, tries to rescue something from the ship that has sunken in an almost frozen lake. As the Robinson’s face disaster after disaster, the show quickly becomes a story about a family and the origin of what has happened to the Earth to get them out into space, and allows viewers to learn about their flaws, backstory, and how they are just beginning to overcome it.

A Netflix Original, Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens (Black Sails, Die Another Day) as John Robinson, and Molly Parker (House of Cards, Deadwood) as Maureen Robinson, the family’s parental leaders who are struggling with their estranged relationship in the midst of trying to keep their family safe. As the Robinson kids, Taylor Russell (Falling Skies) is the strong-willed and confident Judy, Mina Sundwall (Maggie’s Plan, Freeheld) is the quick-witted and definitive middle-child Penny, and Max Jenkins (Sense8, Betrayal) is the curious and sensitive Will Robinson, the youngest and most vulnerable of the clan, who forms an unlikely and inexplicable bond with a sentient robotic alien being.
