Later this week, DC Universe will launch the first season of its latest original series, Swamp Thing. While the show recently finished its shortened first season, DC Universe has revealed a previously unannounced addition to the cast. Via Deadline, veteran actor Michael Beach has joined Swamp Thing as one of the creature’s first villains.
According to the report, Beach will portray Nathan Ellery, “a no-nonsense businessman with a ruthless streak.” He’s also described as “the polished CEO of a legitimate venture capital firm, but his smooth corporate veneer hides his willingness to resort to extreme measures to achieve his goals.”
Ellery made his comic debut in Swamp Thing #1; where Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson presented him as the head of a criminal organization called the Conclave. It was Ellery’s men who were responsible for the “accident” that seemingly killed Alec Holland and created Swamp Thing. Ellery also hid his criminal connections behind his legitimate business interests.

Last year, Beach had a supporting role in If Beale Street Could Talk. He also played Jesse Kane, the father of Black Manta, in Aquaman. That was a fitting role for Beach because he voiced Devil Ray, an alternate version of Black Manta, on Justice League Unlimited. Additionally, Beach co-starred in the Spawn animated series and had a recurring role on Stargate Atlantis.
Swamp Thing will premiere this Friday, May 31 on DC Universe. Are you looking forward to seeing Beach as Nathan Ellery? Let us know in the comment section below!
