Later this year, DC will revisit the Golden Age of Comics with a new story that co-stars its most iconic characters from that era. Newsarama brings word that the Justice Society of America is about to make their triumphant return to the DC universe. The legendary superhero team will appear in an upcoming Justice League storyline.
The storyarc is titled “The Justice Doom War,” and the Justice Society will show up in its second part. According to DC’s synopsis, the Justice League will split into three factions in order to find the shattered fragments of the Totality. One of those teams will travel into the past, where they will presumably run into the JSA. The story comes from co-writers Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV and a revolving door of artists that includes Jorge Jimenez and Howard Porter.
“I can’t tell you how honored and thrilled I am to be able to reintroduce them to mainline continuity,” said Snyder. “I’ve been waiting to do it for months and months and months and months and months – really, since we did [Dark Nights:] Metal. I have really big plans for them. I mean, they play a really crucial role in this story.”

Most recently, the Justice Society has shown up in the pages of Doomsday Clock, which officially connects characters from Watchmen with mainstream DC continuity. That series memorably featured Dr. Manhattan changing the past and erasing the JSA from existence. However, this latest announcement suggests that his actions will be undone. Additionally, Snyder insists that “The Justice Doom War” won’t be his last go-round with the characters.
“But I also have big plans for them in general,” added Snyder. “They’re characters that I’ve been dying to use for a very long time. I’m a big fan of what Geoff Johns did with them, and what James Robinson did with them.”
