Producer James Wan and Warner Bros. have set a new date for the Mortal Kombat reboot to hit theaters. Now, it will arrive on January 15, 2021. That’s two months sooner than expected, as the film originally had a release slated for March 5, 2021.
Mortal Kombat began production back in September, with screenwriter Greg Russo providing a teaser image on Twitter. Actor Ludi Lin provided a brief look behind-the-scenes earlier this week, with a brief fighting video featuring his character, Liu Kang.

Russo confirmed earlier this year that the Mortal Kombat reboot will go for an R-rating, unlike the two PG-13 MK films from the ’90s.
“MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I’m not gonna say which ones) You’ll just have to wait for the movie & see,” wrote Russo.
Simon McQuoid is directing the MK reboot, which features Joe Taslim (The Raid) as Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.
