Everybody celebrates Star Wars Day differently. Varèse Sarabande Records is hoping fans will ring in the “holiday” by revisiting the music from one of the most iconic Star Wars multimedia projects. The label has just announced plans to re-release composer Joel McNeely’s score from Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire on vinyl and CD.
Shadows of the Empire was an ambitious project that included a novel, a video game, and comics published under the same name. The story also took place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. In the video game, players controlled Dash Rendar, a mercenary tasked with helping Luke Skywalker rescue Princess Leia from the crime lord Prince Xizor on Coruscant.

McNeely recorded his Shadows of the Empire score with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The game’s cover was also memorably illustrated by Star Wars poster artist Drew Struzan.
The Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire score will be available on August 7. You can pre-order both the CD and vinyl versions of the soundtrack on the Varèse Sarabande website.
