Tom Holland Shares an Uncharted Filming Update

Sony’s long-awaited Uncharted movie was primed to start filming earlier this year after braving a never-ending series of directorial shakeups. However, the COVID-19 outbreak pushed back its schedule. But with lockdown protocols lifting overseas, production finally started in Europe in July with Venom director Ruben Fleischer at the helm. According to Tom Holland, things are coming along nicely on the big screen translation of Naughty Dog’s hit video games.

Holland stars in Uncharted as a young Nathan Drake, and he recently hopped onto Instagram Live to talk about the film’s progress. He was clearly exhausted, but Holland is excited for fans to see what they’ve been working on.

“Filming is going so well, it is going so well,” said Holland. “The film is, like, everything I ever dreamed it would be. You know, I don’t know if you guys played the games but I was such a huge fan of the games and it’s been going so well.”

Anyone who has played the games knows that Nate tends to put himself through the ringer, from hanging off of moving trains or trying to escape a sinking cruise ship. It sounds like the movie will feature its own assortment of impressive actions sequences as well. Thankfully, Holland has experience with big stunts.

“I do have the biggest bruise of all time though, on my leg,” added Holland. “But it’s in a bit of a revealing area for Instagram Live. I think I would get shut down by Instagram. But yeah, it is a glorious bruise.”

Holland also used his time off to talk about his other big role as Spider-Man. However, Holland’s upcoming third solo outing as the webslinger only got a passing mention. Regardless, he did share a behind-the-scenes story about the wire work and CGI needed to film the scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming where Peter Parker, in full costume, sneaks through his bedroom window, only for Ned Leeds to discover that his best friend is the MCU’s newest superhero.

Uncharted will hit theaters on July 16, 2021.
