Insomniac Games Addresses Peter’s New Look in Spider-Man: Remastered

Earlier today, Insomniac Games revealed how Peter Parker will look in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, the Playstation 5-enhanced update of Spider-Man PS4 that players can download by purchasing Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Ultimate Edition in November. Needless to say, fans have some thoughts about the character’s new appearance. Some are impressed by the level of detail made possible by the PS5’s improved hardware set. But the fact that Peter looks radically different from how he was presented in the original PS4 game isn’t sitting well with others. The response was so swift that Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar issued his own statement, which you can read below.

“Today’s news about the new Peter Parker face model has surprised some of you,” wrote Intihar. “And we at Insomniac totally understand your reaction… But as we discussed the franchise’s future and moving to the PS5, it quickly became apparent that delivering even more believable-looking characters made finding a better facial match for actor Yuri Lowenthal–who we all love as Peter–a necessity.”

“We care as much about this character as your attachment to him,” continued Intihar. “So please know we didn’t make this decision/change lightly. As we did throughout the development of Marvel’s Spider-Man, we’ll continue to read your comments, listen, and always be looking for ways to improve every facet of the game. At the same time, I hope you can trust us that this decision is what we feel is best for the future of the franchise and our upcoming goals for this beloved Marvel character.”

While John Bubniak served as Peter’s Spider-Man PS4 facial model, Insomniac chose Ben Jordan to succeed him for the remaster. Regardless, not all players share Intihar’s view that Jordan’s face is a better match for Yuri Lowenthal’s voice. There’s no denying that the character looks a lot younger this time around. In fact, this has led some gamers to accuse the studio of simply hiring Jordan because he resembles Tom Holland.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales hits stores on November 12.
