Long gone are the days when Disney’s princesses were damsels in distress. Nowadays, the heroines of all the films made by the House of the Mouse are kickass warriors. And a fearless and passionate warrior indeed is Kelly Marie Tran’s Raya, the protagonist of the upcoming adventure fantasy movie Raya and the Last Dragon. Disney has now released the official trailer for the film that should debut in spring. While the short video doesn’t offer a closer look at Awkwafina’s Sisu — a water dragon that can turn herself into a human being — it shows the lovely animal sidekick Tuk Tuk, who will help Raya in her quest to find the legendary creature. Are we the only ones who got some BB-8 vibes here?

Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada directed the movie from a story by Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim. The official synopsis of Raya and the Last Dragon reads:
“Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.”
The movie should have debuted on November 25 but was delayed to March 12, 2021, due to the COVID-19 health emergency. In the meantime, you can watch the official trailer in the player below.
