The Mandalorian’s Latest Guest Star Talks About Their Star Wars Return

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian season 2 episode 3!

Last week’s episode of The Mandalorian finally brought Mando face-to-face with other Mandalorians for the first time this season. Among them was a fan favorite anti-heroine, Bo-Katan Kryze. Katee Sackhoff portrayed Bo-Katan in live-action, reprising the role she originated in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Sackhoff shed some light on how she came back to the Star Wars franchise. According to Sackhoff, she made sure that the creative team behind the series knew that she wanted to appear.

“I sort of slyly mentioned it to Dave Filoni when I saw him at one point, and he was like ‘well, you never know,’ in his little cheeky way that he does it,” recalled Sackhoff.  “Then when I got a phone call to sit down with Jon Favreau , I think my brain exploded…I sat down thinking I’d…have to really jump through hoops…and he was like “do you want to do this?’ I didn’t even know how to answer the question. Of course I wanted to do it. I was such a huge fan of the show and this is pretty amazing.”

“She truly is so special,” added Sackhoff. “She’s been such a pivotal character in this world, and she’s so important to the story [of The Manadalorian], and where it’s going. This character has been such [an important] part of my life for so long, it is incredibly special and rare to have actually been able to play her in live-action. So there’s a lot of nerves that come with that. My dad raised me on sci-fi and Star Wars, this is like a dream come true.”

Sackhoff declined to say whether Bo-Katan would appear again this season. However, she did indicate that she made sure that Bo-Katan’s animated appearance was accurately depicted. Scar and all. She also hinted at how Bo-Katan has changed since her last appearance in Rebels.

“I think that there is a little piece of Bo-Katan that I don’t think you see coming,” said Sackhoff. “She’s got something else going on in her mind, and…everything she does is purposeful. I think that is new for her. She’s grown into the role of a leader, and I think she finally believes that she is that leader. But there is an ego that comes with that, which may or may not work against her.”

The Mandalorian season 2’s first three episodes are currently streaming on Disney+. Episode 4 will arrive on Friday, November 20.
