The sophomore season of His Dark Materials has finally made its debut in the United States. This season will adapt the events of Philip Pullman’s The Subtle Knife from book to screen. Lyra Belacqua and her new friend Will Parry will have to make their way through the dangerous Cittàgazze, which is filled with specters that steal the souls from anyone who has come of age. At the same time, Mrs. Coulter and the Magisterium are ready to do whatever it takes to prevent the world from discovering the truth about the Dust.

Season 2 of His Dark Materials will also feature new writers who have joined Jack Thorne in adapting the young-adult fantasy novel. Among the new additions story-wise, fans can expect the witches to play a more prominent role than they did in the first season. Unfortunately for fans of James McAvoy, the COVID-19 outbreak forced the producers to cut the Lord Asriel-focused episode from its order. The elimination of the episode means that the actor will not appear this season.
The next episode of His Dark Materials will debut in the US on HBO and HBO Max on Nov. 23
