The end is near for The Walking Dead series. The show that first aired on Oct. 31, 2010, will wrap up with the expanded two-year The Walking Dead Season 11. The final installment will span 24 episodes. It will run through late 2022, which means that there are still plenty of episodes of the flagship series, considering the six extra Season 10 episodes that are about to debut in a few days.
And it appears that production on The Walking Dead Season 11 has already begun as the producers took up to Twitter to share a closer look at the final installment. The photo features the well-known windmill in Alexandria, the walled-off community led by Michonne Hawthorne. During the recent Whisperer War, the Alexandria inhabitants fled the community to refuge at the Tower, but they have presumably reclaimed their territory after defeating the Whisperers and their horde.

Even if the flagship series soon finish, The Walking Dead universe will keep on expanding. The original series will lead to a greenlit spinoff focused on the new adventures of Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier. The spinoff will debut somewhere in 2023 and will involve current The Walking Dead showrunner, Angela Kang.
AMC has yet to announce the official debut date for The Walking Dead Season 11. However, the show will return with TWD Season 10 bonus episodes on Feb. 28.
