Marvel Executive Says Loki Could Run For More Than One Season

With only one episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier remaining, Disney+ subscribers will soon be shifting their attention to Marvel’s next live-action series, Loki. The show’s premiere is still over a month away. However, Marvel is already considering the potential of even more stories featuring Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief.

Nate Moore, Marvel Studios’ VP of Production and Development, recently spoke with IndieWire about the possibility of any of its shows lasting more than a single season. For WandaVision, Moore essentially confirmed that that’s “a show you can only do once.” Regardless, Loki is a different story.

“The one that comes to mind — and that probably isn’t a secret — I think there’s a lot of storytelling in Loki that’s really irreverent and clever and cool, but also lends itself to multiple seasons in a way where it’s not a one-off,” said Moore. “Tom Hiddleston, I think, is doing some of his best work on that show. It really is kind of amazing. I think of all the great stuff he’s done, but this show is going to show such different sides and really the true scope of his range. I think that show is going to surprise a lot of people.”

Meanwhile, the fate of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier isn’t clear. But Moore insists that the door is still open for more episodes.

“We’ve definitely kicked around ideas because we always like to keep thinking about where things can go,” added Moore. “But we also, frankly, in the crush of the pandemic, we’re just trying to finish the show and make sure it got out in a timely matter. Hopefully at the end of this season, you will see the potential for what we could tell in a subsequent season.”

So far, Marvel’s foray into the TV realm has been very successful. Both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have earned top marks from critics. And the studio is hoping that Emmy voters also feel the same way. Marvel is currently planning to submit The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as a Drama Series at this year’s awards ceremony. The studio will also have WandaVision compete in the Limited or Anthology Series categories.

Loki will premiere on Disney+ on June 11.
