Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series has only been in production for a few weeks, so it’s going to be a while before we get our first official look at Ewan McGregor’s return as the Jedi Master. Regardless, this isn’t stopping the actor from dropping a few hints about his character’s new look on the highly-anticipated show. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, McGregor provided an update on how the project is coming along.
Obi-Wan picks up 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III. And last night, fans got an early glimpse at the show’s older, wizened Jedi when McGregor paid a virtual visit to Kimmel while sporting Kenobi’s signature scruff. It should be noted that McGregor’s facial hair more closely resembles his full-beard look from Attack of the Clones than his Alec Guinness-inspired goatee from Revenge of the Sith. But given Obi-Wan’s exile on Tatooine, it makes sense for him to have a more unkempt appearance. McGregor also teased the changes that have been made to Obi-Wan’s wardrobe.
“It feels great,” said McGregor. “I have to say I’m having a really, really good time. The costume’s probably slightly different than you might expect. But to go back into the role, shall we say, is great. It’s all still there, it feels good, there’s great scripts and great people to work with, and it’s great. I’m having a good time.”

McGregor couldn’t reveal much else about the series. However, he did confirm long-standing rumors that he had a lightsaber fight with Noel Gallagher at the ex-Oasis guitarist’s 30th birthday party in London in the late ’90s. He also let slip that he celebrated May the Fourth last week by filming a scene with “someone very special” in his life that he’s never acted with before. He also continues to be amazed by the StageCraft technology popularized by The Mandalorian.
“You know, before, we did months of blue screen and green screen acting,” continued McGregor. “And now we’ve got this extraordinary technology where we sort of work inside a big screen and the backgrounds are on there. And so it feels much more realistic. It’s good.”
