Black Adam’s Pierce Brosnan Talks About His Dr. Fate Mo-Cap Suit

After playing action heroes throughout his 40-year career, Pierce Brosnan is finally stepping into the role of a superhero in DC’s Black Adam. Brosnan joined the film’s cast earlier this year, as Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate, a magical empowered hero who is known for his trademark helmet and cloak. However, it sounds like the movie’s design wizards are taking a Green Lantern-style approach to the good doctor’s signature threads.

People recently hosted a video interview between Brosnan and his son (via ComicBookMovie.com). And when Black Adam came up, Brosnan revealed that his costume will be a digital creation in the film. But thankfully, his stage background helped prepare him for the experience.

“I do have to put the motion capture suit on, which is an acting challenge in itself,” said Brosnan. “But luckily, I was brought up in the theater, so I know how to get into tights and act the goat.”

In the comics, Kent Nelson was the son of an archaeologist who inadvertently freed the cosmic being known as Nabu from his tomb in the Valley of Ur and spent the next two decades training in the mystic arts. The film will reportedly stick close to Fate’s origins while also depicting him as a member of the Justice Society, which also includes Hawkman, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher. Filming on Black Adam began in April. And according to Brosnan, production is expected to wrap sometime next month.

“This is such a big movie that the schedule is changing,” added Brosnan. “And I think we’re three months into the film now, and we’ve still got until July to go.”

Black Adam hits theaters on July 29, 2022.
