Bill Murray’s decision to appear in Ghostbusters: Afterlife after spending years vowing to never return to the series may have thrown a lot of fans for a loop. But even more bizarre is his upcoming foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors about Murray’s involvement with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania began circulating earlier this month. And while Marvel hasn’t announced his casting, Murray himself seemed to confirm these reports in a new interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
Murray usually stays away from big franchise movies, so his role in Marvel’s next Ant-Man flick is nothing short of shocking. Technically, Murray didn’t mention the film by name. But his reference to director Peyton Reed made it fairly obvious which one he was talking about.
“You know, recently I made a Marvel movie,” said Murray (via ComicBook.com). “I probably won’t tell you, but never mind. In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project. But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On he made a movie years ago, which I think is damn good. So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise.”

This won’t be Murray’s first brush with the Marvel Universe. A few years before Saturday Night Live turned him into a household name, he provided the voice of Johnny Storm in a Fantastic Four radio series that aired in 1975. But fans probably shouldn’t get too attached to whatever character he’s playing in the film.
“Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy,” added Murray. “And now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie. But I don’t think I need that experience a second time. And to come back to your previous question: I have mostly had a pretty good knack for avoiding the nasties of this industry. Fortunately, most good artists are also good people. At least that’s how I experience it with my friends.”
