Today’s Stranger Things Day event has already premiered a brand new teaser that gives us our best look yet at the show’s highly-anticipated fourth season. However, the reveals didn’t stop there. As with previous seasons, Netflix also released a video that announces all of the episode titles for Stranger Things 4. And in keeping with the show’s retro and geek-friendly vibe, the titles are laden with plenty of pop culture references. Check out the video below.
The title of the season opener, “The Hellfire Club,” began making the rounds a year ago. And aside from being a possible nod to the X-Men villain team of the same name, it’s since been confirmed that this is the name of Hawkins High School’s Dungeons & Dragons club, which is sure to count Mike, Dustin, and Lucas among its newest members. Additionally, D&D fans will most likely recognize the next title “Vecna’s Curse” as another reference to the classic RPG. In the game’s universe, Vecna is a powerful wizard whose ascension to godhood turned him into a skeletal, undead lich.

Another noteworthy title is “Dear Billy,” which could be a Max-centric episode that finds her reckoning with the death of her step-brother, who sacrificed himself at the end of Stranger Things 3. The video also hints at a return to familiar territory with “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab.” Plus, “Papa” essentially confirms the return of Matthew Modine as Dr. Brenner, thought killed in the season 1 finale. It’s also worth pointing out that like Stranger Things 2, the new season will consist of nine chapters. Seasons 1 and 3 previously featured just eight episodes.
For now, Netflix still isn’t revealing Stranger Things 4’s release date beyond the vague window of summer 2022. However, an official announcement might not be far away. The streamer memorably announced Stranger Things 3’s 2019 premiere date on New Year’s Eve in 2018. So it’s possible that the new season will follow this model as well.
