Tom Holland Teases Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Darker Tone
In just over a month, Spider-Man: No Way Home will put Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to the ultimate test. Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro were confirmed well over a year ago. However, the recently released poster seems to hint that more Spidey bad guys are back as well. While speaking with Total Film, teased three generations of villains in the film. He also took the opportunity to once again shoot down some popular rumors. Tom Holland teases.
“People don’t believe me when I say that [Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield] are not coming back,” said Holland. “But people are going to have to believe me at some point. [laughs] It means a lot to me. The first time you see Doc and the rest of the characters that come back, it’s so exciting – and it’s such a huge moment in cinematic history. It’s three generations coming together.”
“I’m talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys,” added Holland. “To see Alfred come in, and have to adapt and change to the way that the films are made, but also change director, and also [the fact that] I’m now Spider-Man. It was really interesting to see these actors adapt and change what they were doing to fit the modern era.”

Holland also told Total Film that No Way Home‘s tone is much darker than the previous films.
“It’s dark and it’s sad, and it’s going to be really affecting. You’re going to see characters that you love go through things that you would never wish for them to go through. And I was just really excited to kind of lean into that side of Peter Parker…[Peter] is always someone who’s looking up. He’s always really positive. He’s always like, ‘I can fix this. I can do this.’ Whereas in this film, he feels like he’s met his match. He’s like, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ That was an aspect of the character that I’d never seen before, and I was really, really excited to try to tackle.”
“I haven’t seen the film yet, but I’ve seen pieces of the film, and it’s the best work we’ve ever done.” continued Holland. “It’s the best Spider-Man film that we’ve ever made. I really don’t think fans are at all ready for what they’ve put together. I know that I’m not ready, and I know that it’s going to be brutal.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters December 17.
