Marvel’s Secret Invasion series is bringing back another familiar face. Deadline is reporting that Cobie Smulders will reprise her role as former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill.
Smulders made her MCU debut as Hill in The Avengers, before reprising her role Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and all three Avengers sequels. Additionally, Smulders had a co-starring role in Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, the post-credits scene revealed that the Maria Hill in that film was actually a Skrull named Soren in disguise.
In the Secret Invasion comic, Hill was actually in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. when the Skrull invasion began. But since the MCU’s history has largely done away with S.H.I.E.L.D., her circumstances will likely differ. And since the Skrulls are shape shifters, we can’t even be sure that Smulders will always be playing the real Hill.

Samuel L. Jackson is headlining the series as Nick Fury, with Ben Mendelsohn also returning to play Talos, a Skrull ally whom Fury met in Captain Marvel. Talos also appeared alongside Soren in Far From Home. While Fury was out in space, Talos impersonated him on Earth to hide his absence.
The series will force Fury and Talos to deal with a covert Skrull invasion that has already replaced key members of humanity with Skrull imposters. Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott will also co-star in the show.
Secret Invasion is filming now, and it will likely premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
