Between making press rounds for this week’s Peacemaker and simultaneous shoots on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, James Gunn has a lot on his plate right now. But despite his busy schedule, we can officially add one new superhero project to his upcoming slate. While plugging his new spinoff from last year’s The Suicide Squad, Gunn revealed that his relationship with DC will continue on yet another TV series set in the DC Extended Universe. James Gunn confirms.
Gunn shared the news during a recent interview with Collider. He didn’t say which characters will appear in the mystery show or if it’s related to The Suicide Squad at all. Regardless, he divulged that conversations with DC’s top brass are already underway.
“You know, we’re stepping forward,” said Gunn. “It keeps happening. We’ll see what’s happening, and I’ll know what’s happening very shortly. I dealt with it last night and this morning. […] It’s TV. There you go.”

Gunn’s comments line up with DC Films president Walter Hamada’s affirmation last year that he will continue to develop new content for the studio. Gunn also previously indicated a willingness to produce other spinoffs featuring characters from The Suicide Squad. But it might actually be more interesting to see him take a stab at other heroes (or villains) who fall outside the purview of Task Force X. Whatever the case, it certainly sounds like Gunn is eager to stay within the DCEU.
Peacemaker will air its first three episodes on HBO Max this Thursday, January 13.
