You can expect some long lines at the bathroom when The Batman hits theaters in just a few weeks. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has confirmed the official runtime for Matt Reeves’ highly-anticipated reboot, and The Batman‘s runtime clocks in at a whopping two hours and 55 minutes. That total includes eight minutes of credits.
This makes it the longest solo Batman movie in the history of the franchise. Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher were able to keep their respective films around the two-hour mark. However, Christopher Nolan pushed the envelope with his own Dark Knight trilogy, which ranged from 140 to 165 minutes.
News of a lengthy runtime isn’t all that surprising. After all, the film features at least four major villains: Paul Dano’s Riddler, Colin Farrell’s Penguin, Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman, and John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone, the latter of whom has yet to appear in any promotional materials. Regardless, two hours and 55 minutes is pretty long for a standalone film. But as Avengers: Endgame proved in 2019, audiences will still turn out in droves to see their favorite characters in action.

As THR notes, any movie whose runtime stretches beyond two and a half hours “automatically” loses one theatrical screening per day. However, there have been some exceptions to this rule, including the recently-released Spider-Man: No Way Home, with theaters presumably adding new showings to keep up with high ticket demand. In The Batman’s case, WB will compensate for this by increasing the reboot’s theater count.
The Batman will hit theaters on March 4.
