Halo’s first season is still less than two months away from hitting Paramount+. Regardless, the streaming service is already looking to bring some new creative talent onboard for a potential second season. Variety brings word that David Wiener is currently in talks to assume showrunning duties for Halo in the event of a season 2 renewal. Halo showrunners.
Wiener didn’t work on Halo’s inaugural season. But he’s no stranger to the sci-fi genre. He previously developed Peacock’s 2020 adaptation of Brave New World, serving as a writer and executive producer on the series. He also worked as a writer and co-executive producer on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and season 2 of Amazon’s Homecoming.
Halo has yet to receive an official greenlight for season 2. But the fact that Paramount+ is already interviewing new showrunners suggests a great deal of confidence in the show’s upcoming launch. News of Wiener’s possible involvement was shared during a recent TCA panel for the series by executive producer Justin Falvey, who also claimed that “several seasons” of the show are in the planning stages. But for now, Wiener is reportedly still “one of multiple candidates” for the showrunner’s gig.

Showrunning duties for Halo were initially split between Kyle Killen and Steven Kane. Variety confirmed both of their departures last summer, with Killen revealing that he actually left the series before filming began. However, Kane agreed to remain with the series until production on season 1 had finished. He also used the TCA panel to explain his decision.
“It’s such a big world that it takes 10 times more work and energy than any normal show,” said Kane. “It can’t be done remotely, so I was in Hungary for close to two years out of the three I was working on it. As much as I enjoyed every minute of it, it’s a long time to be away from my family.”
Halo will debut on Paramount+ on March 24.
