The number 2 in the title of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 doesn’t just denote the secodn movie in a franchise. It also emphasizes the tag-team nature of the key battle this time. Both Sonic and his arch-enemy Robotnik (Jim Carrey) have powered up partners now. Sonic’s pal Tails showed up at the tail-end of the first film, appropriately, and just in time. The blue speedster’s gonna need that backup, with Knuckles the echidna now on the side of evil. Take a look at the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 final trailer below:

According to the official synopsis for the sequel, “After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
