The cast of the Anansi Boys TV series continues to grow. Deadline is reporting that CCH Pounder, Jason Watkins, and Fiona Shaw have booked leading roles in Amazon’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s hit fantasy novel.
Pounder will appear in the series as Mrs. Higgler, a family friend of Charlie Nancy (Malachi Kirby) and the matriarch of her own clan. Watson will star as Graham Coates, while Shaw has been tapped to play Maeve Livingstone. Other new additions to the show’s cast include L. Scott Caldwell, Joy Richardson, and Lachele Carl.
Anansi Boys centers on Charlie, a shy Londoner whose life is upended when he learns that his late father was actually an incarnation of the trickster god Anansi. Charlie also discovers that he has a twin brother, Spider, from whom he was separated at birth. Kirby will also play Spider on the series. Delroy Lindo was cast as the boys’ father, Mr. Nancy, last year.

Pounder previously portrayed Mo’at in Avatar and had leading roles on The Shield and NCIS: New Orleans. Watkins previously starred on Netflix’s The Crown. Shaw currently stars on BBC’s Killing Eve, but younger viewers may know her from playing Aunt Petunia in the Harry Potter franchise.
Gaiman is co-showrunning Anansi Boys with Douglas Mackinnon. Both will executive produce the series alongside Hilary Bevan Jones, Richard Fee, Lenny Henry, and Hanelle M. Culpepper.
“The sheer amount of acting talent on Anansi Boys is such that I keep pinching myself to make certain I’m not dreaming it,” said Gaiman in a new statement. “I can’t wait until the world sees what we’re making.”
Amazon hasn’t announced a premiere date for Anansi Boys, but filming is currently underway in Scotland.
