The Mandalorian season 3 has been filming since last fall, but the show has just let slip its first major casting addition. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd, has booked a role on the series. Christopher Lloyd joins.
Details on the nature of his character are slim. But sources describe Lloyd’s role as “guest star in nature,” which suggests that he only appears in one episode. Regardless, his casting continues The Mandalorian’s tradition of recruiting top talent for even the smallest roles. Throughout its run, the show has had guest appearances by recognizable names like Amy Sedaris, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Biehn, and Bill Burr, to name a few.
Aside from the Back to the Future franchise, Lloyd is known for his roles in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and ABC’s Taxi. Last year, he starred in Amazon’s The Tender Bar. He also appeared opposite Bob Odenkirk in Nobody, which proved that even at 83 years old, he can still handle an action franchise.

It’s been over a year since The Mandalorian closed out its second season. However, viewers caught up with the Mando when he showed up in the last three episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. Din Djarin also reunited with Grogu after previously handing him off to Luke Skywalker at the end of season 2. Additionally, the bounty hunter finally got himself a brand new starship to replace the Razor Crest. But as far as we know, his latest vessel doesn’t have a name yet.
Disney+ hasn’t announced a premiere date for The Mandalorian season 3.
