Mattel Creations, the site dedicated to limited-edition Mattel toys and products tends to price things a touch higher than some would like. So it may or may not be a shock that this nearly foot-tall replica of the original Masters of the Universe Skeletor action figure in a new designer paintjob costs $400. But a previous run with He-Man and Battle Cat clearly proved the market for it. This designer Skeletor came about as the result of a collaboration between Mattel and artist Madsaki, who frequently works with neon colors and spray paint.
Madsaki credits the original Filmation He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon for helping him learn English. Of the statue, which also comes in a designer box, he says, “It’s filled with my childhood memories of being surrounded by beloved toys, as well as my respect for the culture that has greatly influenced me.”

Note that the cool glowing Snake Mountain in the background is for display only. The statue is just of Skeletor, and he goes on sale at 9 a.m. Pacific tomorrow, Friday, April 29. In addition to the statue, Mattel will make two prints available of vintage minicomic covers colored in Madsaki style, to resemble acrylic and aerosol on canvas.
