Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for its fast-approaching adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho.
Revealed during Netflix’s Geeked Week, the first Yu Yu Hakusho teaser comes ahead of the live-action series’ premiere this December. It re-introduces audiences to street-fighting delinquent Yusuke Urameshi (Takumi Kitamura), who is struck and killed by a car before being resurrected as a supernatural detective. The teaser ends with a literal bang, with Yusuke testing out his signature Spirit Gun.

Netflix’s Yu Yu Hakusho brings the beloved manga to live-action
Yu Yu Hakusho is based on the manga of the same name by Yoshihiro Togashi, which ran across 19 volumes from 1990 to 1994. The manga was previously adapted into an anime series, which originally aired in Japan from 1992 to 1994. (An English dub aired from 2002 to 2006.) Additionally, a 30-minute Yu Yu Hakusho short film hit theaters 1993, followed by a full-length, 95-minute film in 1994.
Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of Togashi’s manga in late 2020. The series is directed by Shō Tsukikawa and written by Tatsurō Mishima alongside Togashi himself. It is developed by Akira Morii and Kazutaka Sakamoto.
Yu Yu Hakusho premieres Thursday, December 14 on Netflix.
