Artists, Writers & Artisans, Inc. (AWA) and Vertigo Entertainment announced a unique partnership between their two companies. Under the guidance of legendary producer Roy Lee and AWA co-founder Axel Alonso, a new line of horror stories will be unleashed. This unprecedented team-up will produce works for film, television, prose, and comics.
Since opening in 2020, AWA has released several critically acclaimed horror titles. Under the new partnership, AWA will supervise the graphic works for each new series. Roy Lee, Vertigo Entertainment, and AWA Studios will in turn co-produce the film and television adaptations of the same stories.
“I’m constantly looking for new stories that bring dread and surprise to push the genre forward in daring, unexpected ways,” said Roy Lee. “I’ve been inspired by the titles AWA has published over the last few years. This dynamic partnership will allow us to work with distinct voices to develop all-new terrifying ideas and bring something to the horror world we haven’t seen before.”
“This groundbreaking partnership provides a mechanism to break bold new stories across numerous media platforms,” added Axel Alonso. “We’re thrilled and honored to be working alongside a horror genius like Roy Lee.” Alonso concluded that the new partnership will allow them to “truly push the boundaries of the horror genre.”
Roy Lee and Axel Alonso’s Legacy of Horror
Described as “Master of Horror,” Lee is most famous for producing some of the most famous and critically acclaimed horror franchises of modern cinema. This includes works such as Barbarian, It, The Grudge, The Ring, and Late Night with the Devil. His upcoming works include a remake of Salem’s Lot and a sequel to I Am Legend.
Axel Alonso is equally impressive in the arena of horror comics. He first found fame at DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, where he edited series like Hellblazer and Peacher. As the CFO of AWA, Alonso continues to publish horror comics by writers like Garth Ennis, Mark Russell, and Benjamin Percy.
Roy Lee and Axel Alonso make for quite the dynamic duo. Both creators have a long history of producing high-quality horror works, albeit in different mediums. As such, the new partnership between AWA Studios and Vertigo Productions should prove promising for genre enthusiasts.
