Eric Kripke is teasing the return of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy in The Boys Season 5.
Ackles plays Soldier Boy in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys, who is canonically Vought’s original superhero. The character was seemingly killed at the end of The Boys Season 3; however, the Season 4 finale reveals that Homelander (Anthony Starr) is still keeping Soldier Boy alive.
What did Eric Kripke say about Soldier Boy in The Boys Season 5?
Speaking with Gamesradar+ about what Ackles’ role will look like in the fifth and final season of The Boys, Kripke said, “You know, what we realized was we really hadn’t explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy. There’s a lot of material there, how soldier boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad, and so we really wanted to dig into that relationship.”
He added of Soldier Boy’s relationship with Butcher, played by Karl Urban, “Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher after Butcher betrayed him in season 3. So he’s just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the supes.”
Along with Ackles, Urban, and Starr, The Boys stars Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell Jr., Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight, Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train, Laz Alonso as Marvin T. “Mother’s Milk,” Chace Crawford as The Deep, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, and Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett.
The fourth season of The Boys concluded on July 18, 2024. A premiere date has not yet been announced for The Boys Season 5, but it is known that it will be the final season of the series.
That being said, a second season of The Boys spin-off Gen V is currently in the works. It has also been announced that Ackles will star in a spin-off prequel series called Vought Rising alongside Aya Cash’s Stormfront. Additionally, another spin-off titled The Boys: Mexico is in development.
The first four seasons of The Boys are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
