Catwoman Celebrates 80th Anniversary with 100-Page Super Spectacular

It’s been a while since Selina Kyle made her first appearance as “The Cat” alongside Gotham’s Dark Knight in 1940’s Batman #1. She may not look like it, but Catwoman turns 80 this year. And to celebrate the anniversary, DC announced the release of Catwoman: 80th Anniversary Super Spectacular #1 in April.

The anthology will feature a new 12-page story, “The Art of Picking a Lock,” by writer Ed Brubaker and artist Cameron Stewart. The duo will reprise their collaboration nearly 20 years after their first foray into the notorious jewel thief’s world. Their story is set near the end of their storyline that started under Darwyn Cooke’s supervision. On top of that, Harley Quinn co-creator Paul Dini will debut a brand new character for the occasion.

The anthology will feature also stories by Ed Brubaker, Cameron Stewart, Paul Dini, Ann Nocenti, Adam Hughes, Tom King, Mikel Janín, Mindy Newell, Will Pfeifer, and Emanuela Lupacchino. As for the pinups, Steve Rude will alternate with Tula Lotay, as well as Jim Balent, and many others. Additionally, the Catwoman series writer/artist Joëlle Jones will be drawing the main cover for this collection.

The landmark one-shot will also feature several variant covers. In this case, a bunch of artists will depict Catwoman throughout the decades. Fans will get the chance to see Selina Kyle as she was in the 1940s thanks to Adam Hughes, Travis Charest (1950s), J. Scott Campbell (1960s), Frank Cho (1970s), Stanley “Artgerm” Lau (1980s), Gabriele Dell’Otto (1990s), as well as Jim Lee/Scott Williams (2000s), and Jeehyung Lee (2010s).

Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1 will hit stores on Apr. 15. Are you going to buy the Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular? Let us know in the comments section below.
