It was only a matter of time before Wolverine got a new solo series under Marvel’s revamped line of X-Men titles. Now, that time is finally upon us. Wolverine #1 is dropping next month, and Marvel has just released a trailer for the comic to tease what fans can expect.
To pen the new series, Marvel has turned to Benjamin Percy, who already has plenty of experience writing Logan’s adventures. Percy previously wrote both seasons of Marvel’s Wolverine-centric scripted podcasts: Wolverine: The Long Night and Wolverine: The Lost Trail. He also wrote the comic adaptation for The Long Night; which Marvel published last year. According to Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Percy’s work in crime fiction and noir makes him the perfect candidate to “capture Wolverine’s voice.”

In the trailer, Percy reveals that fans will see Wolverine as we’ve never quite seen him before: happy. Logan has obviously lived for a very long time and seen friends and loved ones come and go. But as anyone who’s read House of X and Powers of X knows, death is no longer a concern for mutants; and this has probably contributed significantly to Logan’s newfound contentment.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wolverine book without some sort of conflict for the title character to wade through. According to Cebulski, the first issue alone has not one, but two stories, each handled by a different artist. Percy will work with Adam Kubert on a murder mystery, while Viktor Bogdanovic will provide the artwork for an “old-school villain throwdown” featuring none other than Omega Red. Although Percy promises a great deal of action for both stories, he insists that Wolverine’s “emotional arc” is the series’ main focus.
Wolverine #1 hits comic store shelves on February 19. You can check out the trailer for the series below, then tell us what you think in the comment section!
