Todd Phillips Shares New Photos From Last Day of Joker Filming

Todd Phillips perhaps left the 92nd Academy Awards Ceremony with a bittersweet taste in his mouth. After all, he was so close to securing his first victory at the Oscars, thanks to his nomination as Best Director and his Joker‘s nomination as Best Movie. But in the end, it was Bong Joon-ho and his Parasite that took those prestigious awards home. And yet, Phillips looked genuinely happy for Joaquin Phoenix, who managed to win the Best Actor award.

Recently, the Joker director took to Instagram to share a few behind the scenes photos from the last day of filming of his latest blockbuster. The majority of the stills feature Phillips together with Phoenix after they finished filming that final Arkham Asylum scene. You can check out the full Joker gallery below.

Phillips also thanked the people that made it possible for his Joker to become the most profitable comic book movie ever, fans above all.

“What a ride this film has been and it all culminated with watching Joaquin walk up on that stage this weekend,” he wrote. “Thanks again to the entire cast and crew. And especially the fans, for seeing through all the noise and showing up.”

It’s hard to argue that Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime is not the most-loved comic book-related villain by Hollywood. Back in 2009, Heath Ledger posthumously won Best Supporting Actor for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. As for Joaquin Phoenix, his interpretation is already one for the history books. And previous Jokers Jared Leto and Jack Nicholson are also Oscar winners, albeit for different roles.

This is not the first time Phillips missed the victory at the Oscars Ceremony. In 2007, he contributed to the nominated Best Adapted Screenplay for Borat. That time, the award went to William Monahan’s The Departed.
