Avengers: Infinity War Writers Explain Birth of Smart Hulk Deleted Scene

The COVID-19 outbreak forced many fans to stay at home and rewatch some of the comic-book movie blockbusters. In a recent Quarantine Watch Party hosted by ComicBook, Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed some juicy details about the most greenish member of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Many fans wondered how Smart Hulk came to life since we see him already “smart” at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame.

Well, it turned out that Infinity War should have seen the birth of Smart Hulk when the Avenger takes on Cull Obsidian in Wakanda. Too bad that the scene didn’t work, in spite of Mark Ruffalo’s efforts.

“This scene did originally involve the birth of Smart Hulk,” Markus revealed. “Filmed it and everything. Ruffalo was genius, arguing with himself. Didn’t work for beans.”

The screenwriters went on to add that Infinity War should also have seen some more romantic scenes involving Bruce Banner and Black Widow. Unfortunately for fan-shippers, however, the writers had to cut all the stuff that wasn’t functional to the Infinity Stones plot.

“Wrote it,” McFeely revealed. “Shot it. Got cut. As did anything that wasn’t on the stone plot.”

At the end of the movie, only Hulk and the rest of the original Avengers made it through Thanos’s Snap. The screenwriters explained that this happened because they wanted to pay homage to the original formation of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

We’re still not sure when and if fans will see Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again. The actor started his long journey as Bruce Banner/Hulk back in 2012, but right now it seems that he hasn’t got a deal in place for the next step yet.
