Kurt Busiek and Yildiray Cinar’s The Marvels Hits Comic Shops In April

It’s been almost a full year since Marvel announced that Kurt Busiek would be returning to the House of Ideas for a new ongoing series called The Marvels. Naturally, the news piqued fans’ interest, since the title is so close in name to Busiek and Alex Ross’ legendary 1994 miniseries, Marvels. But now, the new series finally has a release window. Marvel has announced that The Marvels #1 will be available in April.

Just like the original Marvels series, The Marvels will take readers on a journey through Marvel history with tales told across several decades. But this time, Busiek is collaborating with artist Yildiray Cinar, who has previously worked on X-Men and Astro City. Additionally, Ross is onboard as the new series’ official cover artist. Readers can expect a variety of different stories, whether they be “epic adventures” or “intense human dramas” that take them anywhere from the streets of New York to the far reaches of space. Plus, we can also expect to meet a few new characters along the way, including the mysterious “KSHOOM.”

“The whole idea of The Marvels is to be able to use the whole Marvel Universe — not just all the characters in it, but all the history of it,” Busiek told Marvel.com. “The sweeping scope of the whole thing. Big stuff can happen in the Marvel Universe, but we usually see it confined largely to the Avengers in Avengers, to the FF in Fantastic Four, and so on. The Marvels is intended as a freewheeling book that can go anywhere, do anything, use anyone. It’s a smorgasbord of Marvel heroes and history.”

Additionally, Marvel has shared three pages of interior artwork from the series that shows a few other familiar faces. You can view them for yourself in the gallery below.
