Tim Drake/Robin Comes Out as Bisexual in Batman: Urban Legends

As Tim Drake prepares to make his live-action debut in Titans season 3, the character is undergoing some pretty significant changes in DC’s comic book universe. In the latest issue of Batman: Urban Legends, the Dark Knight’s longtime partner officially comes out as bisexual, joining a growing stable of LGBTQ superheroes.

The seeds for this reveal were actually sown in the pages of Urban Legends #4, which hit stores in June. In that issue of the monthly anthology series, Tim reconnected with an old acquaintance, Bernard Dowd, who, according to an editor’s note, hasn’t been seen in the comics since 2005. There were certainly a few hints to suggest that Tim saw Bernard as more than a friend.

Regardless, there wasn’t a lot of time to explore their connection. Because suddenly, their rendezvous was interrupted by the arrival of Chaos Monster. The villain kidnaps Bernard, forcing Tim (as Robin) to rescue him in this week’s installment. And by the end of issue #6, Bernard finally asks Tim out on a proper date, to which the Boy Wonder says yes.

Needless to say, the storyline is bound to polarize fans. However, artist Belén Ortega seems to be getting a lot of positive feedback from the new issue. You can check out what she had to say below.

Batman: Urban Legends #6 is now available in comic shops everywhere.
