Marvel Comics has released a first-look preview for December’s Spider-Gwen: Smash #1 — which marks the first proper appearance of Earth-65’s version of Dazzler.
Written by Melissa Flores and illustrated by Enid Balám, Spider-Gwen: Smash is a four-issue limited series that finds Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider and her band — the Mary Janes — on a four-city tour. The first look at issue #1 consists of David Nakayama’s main cover, plus five unlettered preview pages. In these pages, the Mary Janes run into another band fronted by Dazzler. The mutant musician is flanked by Lila Cheney and Rick Jones.

Alison Blaire/Dazzler was confirmed to exist in Spider-Gwen‘s native Earth-65 all the way back in 2014’s Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (the Gwen Stacy variant’s own first appearance). However, Spider-Gwen: Smash #1 is the first time this version of the fan-favorite X-Man can actually be seen in the flesh.
What to expect from Spider-Gwen: Smash
As previously mentioned, Gwen and the Mary Janes embark on a four-city tour in Spider-Gwen: Smash. More specifically, the four-piece rock outfit finds itself opening for a popular band. “Recognizing that this is a major break for their band, Gwen has promised not to engage in any web-slinging shenanigans — but she may not be able to keep it for long,” Marvel explains. “After all, an assassin has set their sights on the headliner, which means she may have to trade her drumsticks for her web-shooters sooner than she anticipated.”
Marvel originally announced the series at San Diego Comic-Con under the title Spider-Gwen: On Tour. In addition to Nakayama’s main cover, issue #1 features variant covers by Elizabeth Torque and Peach Momoko.
Spider-Gwen: Smash #1 goes on sale Wednesday, December 13 from Marvel Comics.
