Marvel’s G.O.D.S. Taps Silver Surfer Artist Ron Lim for Homage Variant Covers

Marvel Comics has enlisted legendary Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim to craft a collection of homage variant covers for Jonathan Hickman and Valerio Schiti‘s G.O.D.S. series.

The House of Ideas has commissioned Lim to draw six variant covers paying tribute to his own iconic cover art for the 1990s limited series Cosmic Powers. These homage variants will adorn G.O.D.S. #3-8. At this time, Marvel has revealed Lim’s cover for December’s issue #3, which depicts the cosmic being known as Oblivion. The artist’s subsequent variants will depict the Living Tribunal, Master Chaos, Lord Order, Infinity, and Eternity.

What is Marvel’s G.O.D.S. about?

Hickman and Schiti’s G.O.D.S. launched early last month. The ambitious series seeks to redefine the cosmology of the Marvel Universe. In issue #1, The-Powers-That-Be and The-Natural-Order-of-Things — two organizations that respectively govern the magical and scientific — join forces with Earth’s heroes to prevent a cataclysmic Babylon Event.

G.O.D.S. #2 — which hits comic shops next Wednesday, November 8 — sees Wyn (the Avatar of The-Powers-That-Be) team with Doctor Strange and Clea to find Cubisk Core, the culprit behind the thwarted Babylon Event. Meanwhile, Wyn’s ex-wife Aiko (a Centivar of The-Natrual-Order-of-Things) attempts to recruit Mia the Magic Girl, a “young mage with startling potential.”

Meanwhile, the solicitation text for December’s issue #3 is characteristically cryptic (though does name-drop the aforementioned Oblivion). “Cassandra is cursed with knowing the future, but no one believes her,” it reads. “There are Black Swans in the bar. Oblivion wants to drink alone, but kids these days don’t respect authority figures. Most of the ingredients are illegal outside of Hell’s Kitchen.”

G.O.D.S. #3 goes on sale Wednesday, December 20 from Marvel Comics. Issue #4 follows suit on January 24, 2024. Both issues feature main cover art by Mateus Manhanini.
