The original X-Men celebrate 60 years

Original X-Men #1 commemorates 60 years of Marvel’s Merry Mutants. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the now-iconic superhero team first appeared in 1963’s X-Men #1.

An official synopsis for Gage and Land’s celebratory one-shot reads as follows: “Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman and Angel — the first and greatest heroes to bear the X-Men name — once traveled into their own futures and reset the course of history. Now another multiversal mystery calls them forth. When the dust settles, one hero will remain, trapped in the world as we know it. With shocking surprise guests and heart-pounding twists and turns, Christos Gage and Greg Land kick off a story that will shake the whole MU!”

Original X-Men #1 comes at a time where mutantkind at large finds itself at a crossroads within the Marvel Universe. The present-day X-Men are currently in the midst of the “Fall of X” event, still reeling from the disastrous events of the 2023 Hellfire Gala. The event will lead directly into next year’s dual limited series Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X — which promise to spell the end of the X-Men’s Krakoan Age.

Original X-Men #1 goes on sale Wednesday, December 20 from Marvel Comics.
