Cyborg Has a Secret Defense Against Starro

The advanced technology that turned Victor Stone into Cyborg gives him considerable power. It also offers him the ability to resist the controlling influence of alien starfish, like Starro the Conqueror. Titans #7 by Tom Taylor and Travis Moore details just how Victor Stone’s tech turns the tide in the Titans: Beast World crisis.

Titans #7 pits the team against Brother Eternity, a cult leader from the same planet as Starfire. Brother Eternity worships a being called the Necrostar, who is of the same race as Starro. Beast Boy attempted to fight the Necrostar by becoming a Starro himself, only to wind up losing himself. This left Cyborg and the Titans fighting a war on multiple fronts, trying to save Beast Boy and the world.

Brother Eternity was quick to capitalize on the Titans being stretched thin. He attacked Titans Tower, with the plan of taking over Cyborg with a Necrostar drone. It was his hope that Cyborg would help him to free the Necrostar from his celestial prison once he was pacified. Unfortunately for Brother Eternity, Victor Stone is not so easily conquered.

Why Cyborg is Immune to Starro Influence

As Cyborg explained to Brother Eternity, the drone required a connection to his nervous system to take over his body. However, as a mostly mechanical being, Victor Stone lacks almost every internal organ it could use to make a connection. While he may be more man than machine, Victor is enough of a machine to make it hard for a parasite to bond to him.

The larger problem lay with one of Cyborg’s most underrated abilities; his mind. While there may be smarter people on Earth, Victor Stone’s brain is enhanced by the technology of two worlds. Coupled with his iron will, this extra processing capacity allows him to overpower the simple hive mind controlling the Necrostar drone, and order it out of his head.
