Marvel’s Edge of Spider-Verse #3 Introduces a New, Space-Faring Spider-Woman

Marvel Comics has revealed what readers can expect from the upcoming third issue of its new Edge of Spider-Verse series.

April’s Edge of Spider-Verse #3 teams writer Justina Ireland with artist Pete Woods for a story starring Star-Spider — a new space-faring superhero who hails from Earth-1978. Additionally, writer Steve Foxe returns for a new story starring Web-Weaver (a character he created with artist Kris Anka in 2022’s Edge of Spider-Verse #5).

At this time, Marvel has shared artist Chad Hardin’s cover art for Edge of Spider-Verse #3, featuring Star-Spider. The publisher has also revealed three unlettered preview pages from Ireland and Woods’ story — plus Woods’ design sheets for Star-Spider and her trusty ship, Silk.

What to expect from Edge of Spider-Verse #3

An official synopsis for Ireland and Woods’ story reads as follows: “Your neighborhood can be a few blocks long, or it can be the size of an entire space station. Star-Spider slings through the stars in her Silk ship helping those in need, thwipping through alien cityscapes. Meet the coolest new Spider-Hero to grace the comics page in a story by writer Justina Ireland and artist Pete Woods!”

“Getting to work on anything Spider-Verse is awesome and getting the chance to create a new Spider is bananapants awesome,” Ireland said. “Star-Spider is an homage to everything I loved as a kid: sci-fi, awkward characters, and super heroes! She’s smart and silly and a bit out of her depth, but also tenacious and I hope everyone loves her as much as I do.”

“Getting to work with Justina creating a new hero in the Spider-Verse is a once-in-a-lifetime treat,” Woods added. “The design for Star-Spider and her corner of the universe is a colorful mashup of everything I love about comics, film, and animation. Justina’s story is a fun ride and a perfect introduction to Star-Spider’s world and its vibrant characters.”

Meanwhile, Foxe opened up about returning to spin a new Web-Weaver tale. “Getting the opportunity to return to Web-Weaver’s world in this new anthology has been such a (web-)blast,” the writer said. “When we originally conceived of Cooper Coen and his supporting cast, we knew there were no limits to the stories we could tell with him, especially because each new installment lets us play with all-new versions of familiar Spider-faces!”

The Spider-Verse continues its expansion next month

Late last year, Marvel announced that its Edge of Spider-Verse anthology series was headed for yet another relaunch. The new four-issue iteration promises to introduce even more Spider-people to the Marvel multiverse.

Things kick off in February’s Edge of Spider-Verse #1 with Weapon VIII — a Spider-Man/X-Men mashup character created by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Travel Foreman. Then, Kaare Andrews and Bob Quinn introduce readers to the horror-themed Spooky-Man in March’s Edge of Spider-Verse #2.

Edge of Spider-Verse #3 goes on sale Wednesday, April 11 from Marvel Comics.
