Marvel’s Tigra Prepares to Pounce on Artgerm’s Blood Hunt #1 Cover

Marvel Comics has revealed Stanley “Artgerm” Lau’s variant cover for the debut issue of Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz‘s Blood Hunt.

Written by MacKay, illustrated by Larraz, and colored by Marte Gracia, Blood Hunt #1 arrives in early May as the first in a five-part event series. Artgerm‘s variant cover for the issue stars none other than the feline femme fatale Tigra — a fan-favorite Avenger who will play a key role in the fight against the vampire scourge plaguing the Marvel Universe.

What role does Tigra play in Marvel’s Blood Hunt?

Tigra is certainly no stranger to fighting vampires. As part of MacKay’s Moon Knight run, the founding West Coast Avenger joined the recently-departed Fist of Khonshu’s Midnight Mission. This involved Tigra aiding Moon Knight in his conflict with a vampire cult. As far as Blood Hunt is concerned, Marvel explains that Tigra will “unleash the Mission’s resources and expertise against the vampire’s overwhelming attacks.”

What to expect from the vampire-centric event series

An official synopsis for Blood Hunt #1 reads as follows: “THE BLOODIEST MARVEL EVENT EVER! The skies have gone dark, the sun hiding its face from the carnage to come. The children of the night, the vampires, have risen from the dark and hidden places of the world as one to drown the Marvel Universe in blood. Earth’s final night has fallen — can even the heroes of this doomed world stem the tide of blood that is to come?”

In addition to the main five-issue Blood Hunt series by MacKay, Larraz, and Gracia, the upcoming event will spin out into various other limited series, one-shots, and tie-in issues.

“I think vampires are a very fun part of the Marvel Universe … You can enjoy them on a surface level as adding a little spookiness to a book, or you can get as deep as you like into the long-running Marvel history of vampires, which is as elaborate as any other part of it (and the fact that Dracula is there is a source of endless delight)!” MacKay said. “BLOOD HUNT is just the latest chapter in the long-running vampire mythos of Marvel vampires — and they’re stepping out of the darkness in a big way.”

Blood Hunt #1 goes on sale Wednesday, May 1 from Marvel Comics. The issue features a main cover by Pepe Larraz.
