Iron Man Goes Big In Aiding Mutant Rebellion

Tony Stark is used to fighting outside of his weight-class. Without any superpowers apart from his own genius and creativity, Stark has to think big. However, his battle in Invincible Iron Man #16 by Gerry Duggan and Creees Lee is perhaps the most literal interpretation possible of the phrase “think big.”

Despite being an ordinary human, Tony Stark has been part of the Mutant resistance fighting the Anti-Mutant group Orchis since the beginning. Admittedly, the battle was a personal one for Tony, given Orchis took over his company. Worse yet, they used his Iron Man armor to create the deadliest generation of Mutant-hunting Sentinel robots yet.

While the X-Men prepared multiple missions to free imprisoned Mutants and capture Orchis’ leadership, Tony Stark ran interference. The double-agent Firestar warned Orchis’ command about the X-Men planning to land a fleet of ships in the Australian outback. Orchis dispatched most of their Sentinels, not knowing that there was no invasion fleet. Instead, they found Tony Stark, waiting with a secret weapon.

Tony Stark Built the Biggest Iron Man Armor Yet

Dubbed the Mark 73 Sentinel Buster, the latest Iron Man armor is Tony Stark’s biggest creation ever. An exact height for the giant mecha is not given, but it is big enough to easily crush the 30 foot high Sentinels between its two massive hands. It is also highly resistant to damage, being constructed of the meta-material Mysterium. This metal is as durable as secondary adamantium, barely conducts heat, and blocks radiation and magic.

The chief problem with the Mark 73 is it requires an enormous amount of power. Tony Stark fears he may not be able to take on every Sentinel on Earth before it runs out of juice. As a great big distraction, however, it proves quite effective, and more than capable of matching all of Tony Stark’s earlier inventions.

Invincible Iron Man #16 is now available on-line and at comic shops everywhere.
