Originally published in five issues by BHP Comics, Killtopia was a cult classic. The dystopian story wowed genre enthusiasts with its intense action and inventive story. Now, Titan Comics is reprinting the series in a deluxe hardcover edition.
Written by Dave Cook, with art by Clark Bint and Craig Paton, Killtopia redefined the cyberpunk thriller. The story is set in Neo Tokyo – a brightly lit metropolis ruled by amoral businesses. The comic opens ten years after an unexplained explosion rocked the city’s Sector-K. This coincided with the release of a nanotech plague called “The Rot” and the city’s mecha going wild.
Now, Sector-K is known as Killtopia and home to the most brutal bloodsport in this future Earth. High-tech hunters known as “Wreckers” journey to Japan to do battle with the rampaging robots, hoping to win wealth, social media influence, and anti-Rot medication. Most, however, become grist for the mill, their live-streamed deaths amusing the masses.
The action of Killtopia centers around Shenji, a rookie Wrecker who discovers a sentient Mecha called Crash. A cure for the Rot lies within Crash’s code and could save the life of Shenji’s sister, Omi. This leaves Crash, Sheinji, and a crew of misfits evading the assassins sent to stop them from saving the world and ruining the profit margins of the corporations that run everything. They must also contend with the awakening of a mysterious digital entity, which is waiting for the right moment to reveal itself to the world.
