Usually comic publishers save their big reveals for San Diego Comic-Con. However, DC Comics stunned the comics-reading world with an early announcement regarding their future plans. Specifically, how a new special called DC All-In, will kick off a new Absolute Universe and a new line of titles set in it.
The announcement came in a video posted to DC Comics’ YouTube channel. Writers Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder discussed the upcoming DC All-In Special, which features art by Daniel Sampere and Wes Craig. They also discussed how the story, which pits Darkseid against a new Justice League, results in the creation of a new reality born of Omega Energy. This reality will become known as the Absolute Universe.

DC All-In offers new take on DC Comics
The Absolute Universe is a darker place, where the heroes will be the underdogs in the fight against evil. Rather than being darker or more violent, however, this makes their idealism shine all the brighter. Both universes will still be connected by one “mega-story,” which will continue through the new Absolute Comics line.
Several new series will be set in the Absolute Universe, with three to follow immediately after DC All-In. Scott Snyder will write an Absolute Batman series, with Nick Dragotta on art. Absolute Superman will be written by Jason Aaron, with art by Rafa Sandoval. Finally, Absolute Wonder Woman will feature scripts by Kelly Thompson and art by Hayden Sherman.
The main DC Universe is not going away. However, October 2024 will see a shake-up to the current line of DC Comics. New creative teams will take over Action Comics, Detective Comics, Titans, Batman and Robin, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, and Catwoman. There will also be new story arcs starting in Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Poison Ivy. The intent is that every book DC publishes that month can be picked up by a new reader, looking to go “all-in” on the new initiative.
DC All-In Special #1 will release to comic book stores everywhere this October.
