Marvel Comics and Disney found tremendous success mashing-up Donald Duck with Wolverine and Thor. Now, Minnie Mouse is getting in on the act. The latest What If…? special will see Minnie taking on the role of Captain Marvel.
Despite buying Marvel in 2010, Disney was slow in allowing the publisher to adapt their characters for comics. This was due to a number of outstanding licensing deals with other American publishers, like Boom! Studios and IDW Publishing. However, 2024 has seen a rush of stories blending the two settings, such as Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime.
Minnie Mouse crossover a throwback to classic Captain Marvel
The story of What If…? Minnie Mouse Became Captain Marvel is built upon Carol Danvers’ first solo series at Marvel Comics. While she is better known today for her military background, Carol Danvers was employed as a writer and editor at The Daily Bugle as her comic opened. The What If…? special puts Minnie Mouse in similar circumstances.
Minnie is a reporter tasked with writing an expose on Duckburg’s newest hero, Captain Marvel. However, her attention is split, thanks to an attack on her paper by the villainous Peg Leg Pete-Scorpion and an incredible secret from her past. Additionally, Minnie must deal with a raid on Scrooge McDuck’s money bin by the Beagle Boys and John D. Rockerduck.
