Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 2.11 Recap

Everyone feels pretty miserable about Tripp. Skye is in quarantine until her tests come back and show that the “cocoon” she was encased in in the alien city didn’t leave her with any lasting effects. Skye feels incredibly guilty about Tripp and is worried about what exactly happened down there. Tensions are high among the whole crew, and they erupt when Coulson decides now is the time to strike, since there is a gap in Hydra management. Everyone is yelling at everyone else, led by Mac, who seems to be especially aggressive. The fighting makes Skye upset, and a soda can in her cubicle starts to shake on its own. But Coulson’s word is final.

Coulson has promised Bakshi to Talbot. He and May are driving their captive to the meet when they are T-boned. A big rig drives them into a warehouse, and masked security forces come out shooting. Coulson and May take them on, but just when they think they got them all, another pops up from nowhere and shoots May. Coulson screams, “You will never take us alive!” and jumps into the line of fire, taking several shots himself. If you couldn’t tell it was a set-up by that cheesy line, then confirmation comes minutes later, when it turns out Hunter (with a douchey American accent) is the one who “saved” Bakshi. The rest of the SHIELD agents are the “dead” forces, and no one is actually dead.

When a safe distance away, Bakshi places a call to Bloom, telling him he is free. But when he hangs up, Hunter has a gun to him, claiming his orders were to kill him after he made contact. Bakshi promises all the money Hunter could ever want, and an “in” with Hydra management, if he agrees to take him to Bloom’s estate. Hunter concedes. When they arrive, Hunter sits at the security gate, waiting for Bakshi to get him clearance. While he waits, Bobbi joins him. Hunter notices that she and Mac seem to have a secret, and she admits the two of them are in a support group.

Inside the estate, there seems to be a lot of in-fighting between Hydra’s upper management. Bloom punches in an access code, which sends alarms to several people, indicating it is time to kill the other Hydra higher-ups. They are all killed with the same obelisk mist that turns them all to stone. This also sends a dozen or so guards to start shooting up Hunter’s car. The car is bullet-proof, and guns come out of the side panels, shooting down all the guards with ease. Then Hunter just drives past the security gate and up to the house. Inside, he shoots Bloom and takes Bakshi alive. It was all a plan to create a bigger power vacuum at the top of Hydra – but they still owe Bakshi to Talbot.

Fitz thinks he can get a snapshot of Skye’s vitals from her biometric monitor during her time in the cavern. He struggles with it throughout the episode, then realizes the results are not wrong: her heart was recorded at almost 300 BPM. “That’s inhuman,” Fitz says without a shred of irony. (It’s not even a wink to the audience – it’s just obnoxious.) But it makes sense: “You survived because you caused it.” Skye is terrified, and Fitz yelling “Something is wrong with you” doesn’t help any. Skye screams, and the light in her cube shatters. Fitz runs out.

May comes in to check on Skye, and she tries desperately to hide the broken light. Fitz comes in and takes the blame for it, saying he knocked into it while trying to get a blood sample from her. But on the upside, Simmons reveals that Skye’s DNA is exactly the same after the cave-in as it was before. Skye is relieved, and Simmons goes to ready her bunk while Fitz helps wrap Skye’s bleeding hand. He admits he switched her results with an old sample. The two DNA samples are actually drastically different, but he doesn’t want anyone to know until things calm down.

Meanwhile, Raina has turned into a thorny creature of sorts who kills her way out of the cavern. She attacks Calvin, feeling like she was betrayed. Her grandmother promised she would be divine, look like an angel; now she is a freak, and Skye received the “gift” meant for her. Raina is in immense pain and is furious when Calvin won’t help her. At his suggestion, she leaves, with the intention of killing herself. She wanders into traffic, but cars swerve around her. A few surround her, and security agents spill out, guns drawn. They want her to come with them, but Raina tells them they will have to kill her or she will force them to do it. Suddenly a blue forcefield comes down around her, and a man with no eyes named Gordon appears, and promises to take care of her. They disappear in a blink of blue mist. Gordon was one of Jiaying’s Inhuman proteges, first learning from her in 1983.

And finally… Bobbi and Mac have a bigger secret than a “support group.” Mac has rigged Coulson’s toy car to scan his office. He has confirmation that Fury’s tool kit is in Coulson’s office.
